The Stanley 66 Scraper/Beader plane is ideal for a quick tool that is safe to use and is effective. Don't overthink using this tool. Just set it up and adjust it. Try it on a scrap of wood. Never learn a new tool on production pieces. Let me show you how easy it is to setup.
1. Loosen the screw on the top of the scraper by turning it counterclockwise.
2. Slide the straight guide onto the body of the scraper, positioning it where you want to guide the blade for a straight cut. Check alignment and distance from the edge to where the bead starts3. Tighten the screws back into place by turning them clockwise with the screwdriver or Allen wrench. Make sure the straight guide is secure and straight. I recommend getting a lock washer.
4. Place the scraper on the surface you want to scrape, with the straight guide resting against the edge of the material. This will help guide the blade in a straight line as you push or pull the scraper.
5. Hold the scraper firmly and use even pressure to push or pull the blade along the surface, keeping the straight guide against the edge to ensure a straight cut.
6. Continue scraping in a straight line until you have removed the desired amount of material. It's a scraper so you're not digging into the wood. Set your blade accordingly.
7. When finished, loosen the screws on the top of the scraper and slide the straight guide off for easy storage.
